Chamba - Overview

An amalgamation of history, natural beauty and architectural treasures, Chamba is a town located at the meeting of two mountain ranges, Zanskar and Dhauladar, in the northern region of Himachal Pradesh. This town nestles at the bank of River Ravi, which chisels the valley of Chamba.

Like any other hill station, Chamba also acquires a lot of mountain wonders to praise. Among many tourist spots in the town, temples are the prime ones to embark on.

Laxmi Narayan temple complex has six temples in its compound area. The main temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu with others consecrated to Shiva, and Radha & Krishana. A metallic Garud statue at the entrance of the temple is the center of attraction.

Another place that lures many tourists to it is Chamera Dam, which is built on the river Ravi. The lake has the same name as of the dam acts as a reservoir of the dam. This dam produces electricity for the entire region of Chamba district.

Bhuri Singh museum in Chamba has a huge collection of paintings, ammunitions, coins, musical instruments and many more things having historical heritage attached to them.

Built by Raja Umed Singh in 18th century, Rang Mahal is one of the historical places to visit, having a blend of British and Mughal influence.

There is a famous folk song that is also sung by a famous singer, Mohit Chauhan. Wordings of the song are – Shimle nai vasna, Kasauli nai Vasna, Chmabe jana zaroor’. It means, “Don’t settle in Shimla, not even in Kasauli, but do go to Chamba”.

How to Reach

By Air: Gaggal airport in Dharamshala is the nearest airport. You may take a flight from Delhi or Chandigarh to reach Dharmashala. From airport, our cab can pick you to take you to Chamba.

Other than Gaggal airport, pick up from Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar airports are also available.

By Train: Pathankot is the nearest railway station. Trains from various cities of India like Jammu, Delhi, Amritsar, etc run daily to Pathankot. From Pathankot, you can reach Chamba by the hired Taxi.
